Building Relationships

On tuesday my group went down to the playground in Harlan to do sports evangelism. A few minutes afer we arrived 6 boys come runngin from their van to the playground. I immediately got out some bubbles and went over to the boys. At first they were a little shy and did not really want to approach me, but after blowing some bubbles for them and letting them blow some they were all talking and playing with me. Four of the boys were brothers and the other two were their cousins. The two oldest boys were twins that were eight years old. The other two were brothers six and four. The two cousins I believe were five and four. I spet the evening blowing bubbles with them and playing with sidewalk chalk and playing basketball. Myself and some otheres were truly touched by spending time with them.

Before the evening was over the mother of the two boys came over and I decided to go and try to talk with her. I told her how much I loved her boys and playing with them was so much fun. We talked fo a while and she told me that she was raising 6 boys on her own. She had four at the playground and two others that were ten and twelve away visiting family. She said her husband had passed away a year ago in a motorcycle accident. I just could not believe she was raising six boys on her own. She siad she trys to keep her boys active and busy and wants them to really know the lord. She said she was a christian and wanted her boys to be also. After a long night of playing wiht the boys and speaking wiht their mother we were ready to leave. I told the mother what fun it was playing and getting to know her boys. she sais no one has ever shown my boys that much attention. I was so touched by this family. I told her we would probably be back later in the week if she wanted to stop back by. Wed. I got to go back to the playground. After being there for some time the mother and her four boys came back. This time the mother came right down and started talking to some other people in my group. I was so happy and really excited to see that family again. I got to paly tic tac toe and hangman with the boys of course I lost every game but I was having such a great time. I talked to the mother some but she mostly talked to some other group members. I learned so much from her and her sone that I could write pages and pages about them. I just feel so blessed to have had that time to spend with them, building relationships. I know the lord will bless them and they will always be in my thoughts and prayers.
